HealthSpring has several programs in place to enhance the skills of our experienced employees, help develop new skills for students entering the healthcare field, and build our relationships in the community. Our company has partnered with local universities to provide internship and residency programs to some of the brightest individuals pursuing degrees in the healthcare field. We pride ourselves in nurturing these mutually beneficial relationships with the students and the universities. See below for an outline of programs offered.

Leadership Program: HealthSpring partners with a local university to provide additional Leadership Development to nominated Senior Managers. The course is 14 months and covers topics that range from ‘Ethics in Business’ to ‘Building a Strong and Winning Team’ to ‘Managing the Stress Points’. Our commitment is to provide managers that are recognized to have high potential for excelling in the company with the opportunity to expand their current knowledge base through an interactive classroom setting. The program is structured around local area Senior Managers learning about topics they can apply and, in turn, use to develop other employees into high performers.

Internship Programs: HealthSpring has partnered with local universities in some of our locations to provide 'real world' experience to students considering a career path in the healthcare industry. The students chosen for the internship program are evaluated through a panel of interviews and are selected based on their major in college, GPA, relative work experience, college courses completed and desire for a career in a related healthcare discipline. While in the program, students will learn about the areas relative to their major in the healthcare industry and will be able to apply the hands-on training later in their careers. At the end of the internship, the students will be asked to evaluate the program by means of a presentation to the management team.

Residency Program: HealthSpring has developed a residency program to assist entry-level pharmacists with developing the knowledge and skills needed to assume a leadership role within a managed care organization. The resident will be exposed to pharmacy operations, MTM, CCIP, disease management, monitoring drug therapy in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals in a clinical setting, and will be responsible for the development of a research project. The resident will have the opportunity to continue professional growth through participation in various activities such as: journal club, project development, teaching and preceptorship, and attendance and participation in in-services related to disease states and medications. The student will have direct access to a HealthSpring pharmacist for coaching and mentoring throughout the program.

Tuition Reimbursement: After the first year of employment, HealthSpring offers tuition reimbursement for employees that are pursuing a degree (undergraduate/graduate) in disciplines relative to our business. The company also provides reimbursement for CEUs, certifications, and license renewal for positions that require such.
